HOWEVER, Orriant is very much aware that those things DON’T CHANGE LONGE-TERM BEHAVIOR. They may create a culture of health, but do we “really” think we are going to accomplish the most difficult task in healthcare, engaging people in behavior change, through financial incentives and information?
I am sorry; but if you went to see a professional counselor and they offered you money or information to get you to change, you would probably walk out.
The U.S. healthcare system costs over Trillion a year and almost 90% of that goes to treating conditions that didn’t have to happen. Unhealthy behaviors are at the root of our nation’s largest industry.
The primary role of the wellness industry is to engage people in behavior change to prevent disease. Getting people to change behavior is an immense task and requires best practices.
Orriant’s fundamental intervention is engaging the masses in a genuine and non-threatening relationship with a health coach that meets each person where they are and applies behavioral best practices to engage self-directed change; and it works.

Western medicine applies a medical model to treat conditions. You can’t prescribe behavior change. Too often wellness programs also take a medical model approach and try to put people on a nutrition program, a fitness program, or a weight management program. Engaging people in behavior change is hard and requires using the behavioral model.
This model starts with where the individual is and not where we want them to be. It requires creating genuine rapport where the person feels safe to look inside and find the real motivation from within.
Then the individual must decide for themselves what small but meaningful changes they are ready to work on. This may be in any area of well-being: social, emotional, intellectual, financial, environmental, occupational, physical or nutritional.
The participant then calls the coach each month for ongoing support as well as for help overcoming the barriers that get in the way.
