Accident insurance pays a covered person benefits for specific injuries and events resulting from a covered accident. Covered employees can use their benefit payments any way they would like, such as paying deductibles, childcare, or utility bills. Accident insurance is a limited benefit policy. It is not health care insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
