Carelon provides convenient access to behavioral health services. Following the intake and assessment process, participants may be directed to either online educational content, appropriate community resources, and/or an access link to an EAP or MHSUD provider in their area to schedule a face-to-face, telephonic, or video counseling appointment. Referrals may also connect participants to a specialty service such as a Work/Life Specialist or legal/financial resource. The Care Manager will query the participant for unique needs or provider preferences, such as gender, language, and location. Reasonable efforts are always made to accommodate these preferences.
The Care Manager assesses the caller’s current situation to determine its severity, caller’s past experiences, and clinical and non-clinical needs. If the Care Manager determines that further assessment is necessary to clarify the most appropriate treatment resources, the Care Manager makes a referral to a provider. Our staff will conduct searches for providers that meet the participant’s preferences. Care Managers provide the names of at least three to 10 providers that meet the participant’s specific preferences. Carelon will connect participants to providers in all emergency and urgent situations.
