Color Cancer Connect is a peer-led program that provides mental health support for individuals undergoing cancer treatment, cancer survivors, and caregivers. It combines elements of support groups, individual psychotherapy, and evidence-based skills, and focuses on specific topics and discussions. The program is not a psychiatric or emergency service, but facilitators are trained to identify and refer participants with requests for individual referrals or emergencies.
Color Cancer Connect meetings focus on building skills and providing a sense of community, rather than on specific symptoms of mental health conditions. Topics include sleep hygiene and communication skills. The methodology of Color Cancer Connect has been validated in peer-reviewed publications.
Color Cancer Connect is available to all participants in the Color program, including those in the early detection phase. For example, a caregiver for a person in treatment would be eligible for Cancer Connect through the early detection program. The program aims to improve mental health outcomes, with studies showing a reduction in depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress among participants. Color Cancer Connect also provides a space for connection and validation among individuals with similar experiences.
