Spira Care

Spira Care is a care delivery model created by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) together with Shawnee Mission Health. It is available to members of employer-sponsored and individual plans that include Spira Care. Care is delivered at Spira Care Centers, which provide primary care and behavioral health services, led by primary care physicians with longer visit times. Members are assigned Care Guides who act as a single point of contact for care and coverage questions, help coordinate care and explain benefits. Online tools let members review lab results, check benefits and schedule appointments. Blue KC has described no copays or deductibles for care received at the centers. Two plan options exist, Spira Care and Spira Care (HSA Eligible). The model launched in 2018.
