Monthly Industry Pulse

Paylocity Acquires Grayscale, Remote Continues Expansion, TriNet to Acquire Cocoon, Vensure Launches New Platform & More Industry News

From solving hiring friction to addressing GLP-1 costs, April's activity suggests the industry is focusing on practical problem-solving.
In This Post:

Employers have long navigated a fragmented stack of workforce management tools. And, if this month’s industry activity is any indication, vendors are increasingly looking to close those gaps.

April’s acquisitions and product launches span some of the most persistent operational pain points in the workplace, from compliance and leave administration to recruiting at scale. Taken together, they add to the growing narrative around platform depth as a competitive differentiator in HR, wellness, and benefits.

Paylocity Acquires Grayscale and Launches New Solution

High-volume hiring remains a persistent challenge for employers, and Paylocity’s latest addition targets that pressure point. On April 6, the HCM and payroll provider acquired Grayscale, an AI-powered recruiting automation company.

The deal brings intelligent automation to time-sensitive recruiting workflows, helping employers engage candidates earlier and accelerate hiring without compromising quality or control. Grayscale’s technology automates portions of the workflow while maintaining human oversight of hiring decisions.

The acquisition reflects Paylocity’s broader strategy to embed AI across its platform.

On April 21, the provider also announced a new solution, but this time shifting the focus to HR and payroll. Designed to reduce administrative burden, Paylocity Elevate Solutions combines the provider’s unified platform with expert HR and payroll support, freeing organizations to focus on strategic priorities as they grow.

Rightway Launches Program for Measurable GLP-1 Outcomes

Recent research shows that GLP-1 programs have crossed from trending to expected in the workplace. Their usage also doubled since 2023 and now ranks among the most valued workplace benefits for over 40% of respondents.

As spending increases, attention is shifting from access to outcomes.

Amid this transition, Rightway, a clinical care navigation platform and PBM solution, launched Care Complete Weight Management. It’s a program that helps employers measure and maximize outcomes from their GLP-1 investments.

The launch addresses critical gaps identified in Rightway’s 2025 employer survey, which found that while 83% of benefits leaders want comprehensive outcomes data, such as BMI changes and health improvements, most lack access to it today.

Additionally, 79% are wary of adding another point solution due to vendor fatigue.

GLP-1 success depends on how well the therapy is managed,” said Kristin Devlin, Chief Pharmacy Officer at Rightway.

Care Complete Weight Management puts pharmacists and other critical clinical support—like nurses and registered dietitians—at the center of that experience, integrated within our PBM, so members receive the right guidance at the right time throughout their journey.”

For employers, the solution delivers extensive reporting on medication use patterns, adherence rates, and clinical outcomes, enabling them to evaluate program effectiveness and demonstrate ROI on their GLP-1 investment.

Remote Acquires Bravas

April 9 saw a surge in M&A activity.

Remote acquiring Bravas was the first of three notable deals on the same day, as the provider continued its expansion beyond traditional HR functionality. It’s also the company’s second major deal this year, following its acquisition of Atlas in January.

Bravas is a software company specializing in identity and device management. With its addition, Remote expands its capabilities by bringing these functions directly into the platform.

Our vision has always been that Remote is the single system that makes global teams work. Bravas brings us closer to that,” said CEO and co-founder Job van der Voort.

The integration roadmap is currently being developed, with updates expected throughout 2026.

TriNet Expands Leave Management Solutions for SMBs with Cocoon Acquisition

In another April 9 development, TriNet entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Cocoon, a market leader in leave management technology, thereby strengthening its leave-of-absence (LOA) offering for small and medium-sized businesses.

The acquisition adds a compliance-first platform with automated workflows and AI-enabled capabilities that improve both employer and employee experiences. Cocoon’s solution delivers real-time leave information, integrated claims filing with state and disability carriers, and automated payroll calculations.

An employee’s leave of absence often represents a pivotal moment in the relationship with their employer,” said Mike Simonds, TriNet president and CEO.

Our acquisition of Cocoon will enable TriNet clients to stand out for their care and commitment to employee well-being, while helping to ensure corporate compliance.

The deal closed on April 14, and the financial terms were not disclosed. Cocoon is now a wholly owned subsidiary of TriNet.

Gusto Buys Mosey to Close Compliance Gap for Small Businesses

The third major deal on April 9 was Gusto’s acquisition of Mosey.

The leader of payroll, benefits, and HR solutions for small businesses bought the AI-powered business compliance platform to expand its capabilities into state and local compliance management.

This acquisition addresses a persistent barrier to growth: small businesses with fewer than 50 employees incur roughly $14,700 in compliance costs per employee per year, about 20% more than large enterprises. Each new hire in a new state can trigger multiple registrations across unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, paid family leave, and corporate tax filings.

Mosey brings technology that automates these obligations across state and local jurisdictions.

Now part of Gusto, the company will launch Gusto Business Compliance later this year, offering state and local registrations, entity management, ongoing filings and renewals, and real-time surfacing of new compliance obligations, all within a single platform.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
